A lay reader is a member of the congregation who assists in the worship service. At St. Stephen’s, we have lay readers, who read the Bible lessons, the responsive psalm, and the Prayers of the People. Lay readers do not robe and usually read the lessons and the psalm from the lectern while reading the Prayers of the People from their place among the congregation.
